VPN test: is your VPN leaking?
A VPN should hide your real IP address. The test shows whether it does – and whether your browser gives you away in other ways.
The test looks for the three most common signs: WebRTC finding a different public IP address than the one you came from, your browser’s time zone not matching the IP address’s country, and your provider being a data centre, as VPN services are.
A WebRTC leak is the most serious. It means your real address slips around the tunnel, so any site can see it. The time zone is less serious, but it tells sites that you use a VPN – and often where you really are.
Remember: a VPN hides your IP address, not your fingerprint. The test also shows what else your browser gives away.
What people ask
How do I stop a WebRTC leak?
Turn on your VPN app’s WebRTC leak protection if it has one. In Brave you can choose under Settings → Privacy and security that WebRTC must not use connections that bypass the proxy. Always check again after an update.
Is using a VPN legal?
In Denmark and most of Europe, yes. What you do through it is subject to the same rules as otherwise.
